GUADALUPE Band About the Band
About the band and the community

The "Guadalupe" band was founded in 2013 in Lublin, as the fruit of the "Guadalupe Meetings" gathered around Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of life. The mission of the band and community is to worship God with Holy Mary and promote the devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe in families. The group consists of children, adolescents and adults. We are located in the Cathedral of Lublin.

The band's name is "Guadalupe", which is the name that Virgin Mary called herself, in the revelation to St. Juan Diego in 1531 in Mexico. In the Nahuatl language the name "de Guadalupe" could sound like: "Te Quatlasupe" and tells about a Mother crushing the serpent, which lurks for our lives.

The flower placed in the logo of the band is the "Nahui Ollin" ("Flower of the Sun") - Aztec symbol of fullness, governance and new life. In the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe it is placed in the womb of Mary "to announce that through Our Lady of Guadalupe will be born the One that will save the world and give us the fullness of life (...). We know that it  announces the birth of the Son of Mary, Jesus Christ . "(Vincent Łaszewski "The Mystery of Guadalupe").

Our band, owned by Mary, would desire, following Her example, to bring Jesus to the world and to worship Him, especially for the gift of life.

We would like as St. Maximilian Kolbe and St. John Paul II to conquer the world for the Immaculata, and thus obtain a heart for Jesus Christ our Lord.

OUR PRAYER

Mary, hide us in your womb,

in the Heart of Jesus,

under the protection of the Holy Spirit,

in the hand of God the Father.

Amen.

THE HISTORY OF THE BAND AND THE COMMUNITY

Officially, the band was formed in 2013, but the history of its foundation is much longer. The Beszłej family lived 4,5 years in Mexico. It was the term of office of Mr.Gabriel Beszłej, the Polish ambassador in Mexico (1999-2004). During their stay in Mexico the family received many graces through the hands of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the patroness of Mexico, among which was the miraculous healing of Grazyna Beszłej, Mr.Gabriel’s wife, after she had broken her ribs and severely damaged her liver in a car accident. After the prayer of a priest by the intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe for the healing of Mrs. Grażyna, she started to feel good. Before the operation, which was to take place, the doctors found out looking at the photos made, that everything is fine. It was an inexplicable miracle.

After returning to Poland Mrs. Grażyna, who joined the Archconfraternity of Our Lady of Guadalupe in the Basilica on Tepeyac the 12 of July 2004, began to organize the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe at home on the memorial of Our Lady of Guadalupe (December 12), thanking for her miraculous healing. The first time there came about 15 guests, and year after year more and more people began to come. At the meetings the guests watched films about the Mother of God and Her Fiesta, sang Mexican songs, tried Mexican cuisine, and above all, prayed the Rosary. Once, there was even the Holy Mass. That day the house was "bursting at the seams" –it was necessary to move the meeting to a place where more people could fit.

The Fifth Guadalupe Meeting took place in 2010. It was held in the Parish of the Lord's Supper in Lublin. It started with the Rosary and the Holy Mass, in which the word was preached by Father Łukasz Waś. After the Holy Mass children offered roses to Our Lady of Guadalupe and everybody prayed entrusting themselves to Holy Mary. Here the band began to form, dressed in traditional Mexican costumes. After the service, the faithful were directed to the Pallottine Junior and Senior High School gym. The band sang the Mexican "posadas" and gave the "pilgrims" Mexican tortillas. Children later smashed the piñata-a hard ball with seven horns, with sweets inside. The meeting ended with a Marian Appeal* and a blessing.

*The Marian Appeal-it is a Polish tradition, were all the Poles throughout the world unite in prayer at 9:00 PM with the Sanctuary of Jasna Góra singing to Mary: “I am here with You, I’m watching, I remember”.

The Sixth Guadalupe Meeting took place in 2011 in Lublin’s Cathedral. There, members of the Community "Porcjuncula" from the Secular Franciscan Order in Lublin, to which Mrs. Grazyna Beszłej belongs, led the rosary. It was the first time the band was dressed in mariachi outfits. They called themselves "Mariachis Polacos" meaning “The Polish Mariachi". After the Holy Mass, presided by the Bishop Ryszard Karpinski, the faithful made their way in procession to the assembly hall of the Metropolitan Seminary, where was held a musical about the apparitions of Our Lady of Guadalupe called "The Message of the Divine Love”. The worshipers of the Mother of God also this time got a Mexican treat prepared by members of the Secular Franciscan Order. The children traditionally smashed the pińata. The meeting ended with a Marian Appeal and a blessing.

The Seventh Guadalupe Meeting in 2012 also took place in the Lublin’s Cathedral. The band increased its members (mostly the people who participated in the musical). The meeting started with a Rosary and Holy Mass, presided by the Archbishop Stanisław Budzik. It was also the 25th anniversary of the ordination of many priests, so there were approximately 50 priests concelebrating the Holy Mass. After the Mass, there was held a concert in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Families received small pińatas that they took to their homes. The pińatas were made by members of the Community "Porcjunkula” of the Secular Franciscan Order in Lublin and friends.

During this time, Agnieszka Beszłej, leader of the Guadalupe band (then "Mariachis Polacos"), decided to record an album of her own songs. Many people asked her for them and she considered it as a sign from heaven. After the blessing of her spiritual director she knew that she had the blessing of God. She began preparing the record of her first album. It was the work of Mary, so help came from different sides. It was supposed to be a “live” album from the concert on the day of the Annunciation in Lublin’s Cathedral. Except the members of the Mariachis Polacos, the band “Razem za Jezusem”(Together after Jesus) there were many other people taking part in the Worship. When Father Adam Lewandowski, rector of the Cathedral, asked Agnieszka, who are all these people that were singing, not being aware of it, she said the prophetic words that maybe “something will come out of it”. Well, and something really came out of it. The first album includes two recordings of this concert, the rest had to be recorded in the Caritas auditorium in Lublin. The recordings lasted 3 days and started on the 20th of May, in the Feast of the Blessed Virgin Mary Mother of the Church (after that there were just a few extra recordings). Agnieszka did not want to sign only her name on the CD, despite the fact that all the compositions were her’s, because she knew that it was teamwork. The band's name, which immediately came to her mind was "Guadalupe". It was because of Mary that the band began to form. During the band’s rehearsals they always prayed through her intercession calling the Holy Spirit.

After recording the first album Holy Mary began bringing new members to the team. During the release of the first album, "Again I thirst", Agnieszka met Father Adam Rybicki, by whose word she wrote the song "Wake me up". The priest suggested the creation of a community with regular formation and prayer. October 2013 is the official date of the beginning of the Community of Guadalupe. Father Adam was its first year Guardian. The purpose of the community is mostly worshiping God with Holy Mary and evangelization.

We must also say something about Father Tomasz Makarewicz SAC, who almost from the very beginning has participated in the Guadalupe meetings. Father Tom was Agnieszka’s catechist, therefore he also participated in meetings held in her house. At the meetings in churches he often led the prayer, and in the first musical he played uncle Juan Bernardino. Now he is the guardian of the Community of Guadalupe. In Lublin’s Cathedral, every second Sunday of the month together with the Community he leads the Worship Prayer with Mary in front of the Holy Sacrament.

The Community is the work of Mary. She leads and protects it with her mantle of protection, and implores everything that is needed to evangelize.

The eighth Guadalupe Meeting was held in two locations. On December 12 the band played on the Holy Mass in the Cathedral of Lublin and on December 14 the meeting was held in the Capuchins church of St. Peter and Paul. The meeting started with a Holy Mass, followed by the Rosary, which was conducted by the Guadalupe Community. After the Rosary the faithful went to the patio behind the church, where they sang the posadas, and later obtained a Mexican snack, prepared by the Community "Porcjuncula" of the Secular Franciscan Order. Everything ended with a Marian Appeal and a blessing.

On January 2014 the video of the song "Wake me up" came out. It was dedicated to St. John Paul II, Patron of the Community, giving thanks to God for his canonization. In the same year in June the second album of the band came out. It was called “Wake me up” and recorded in Studio Fanfara in Lublin.

The Community travels through many towns and villages in Poland. Everywhere people are hungry for prayer and worshiping God.

The Ninth Guadalupe Meeting was held in December 2014. On December 12, the day of the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Guadalupe Community, the Community of the Holy Name of Jesus and the Youth Academy of the Happy Childhood Foundation, played a musical called " The Life of Mary" in the Parish Poczekajka. The next day in the Military Church of the Immaculate Conception there was held a concert in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary, after which the faithful were given Mexican snacks. The kids traditionally broke the pińata. On the third day, the ceremony ended with the Adoration of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament in the Cathedral of Lublin. Every day of the celebration the prayers started with the Rosary and the Holy Mass. During the Ninth Guadalupe Meeting came out the Third Live Album of the Band: "You point the Lord”. The Community also began to distribute a book about Our Lady of Guadalupe by Vincent Łaszewski "The Testimony of the Visionary".

In 2015, the Community has taken a number of works aimed to extend the cult of the Mother of God and through Her bring the faithful closer to Jesus. In March, for the second time, the Community Guadalupe, along with the Community of the Most Holy Name of Jesus played the musical "Life of Mary" in the Parish Poczekajka. The musical "Life of Mary" was held four times (twice in May, October and December)in the Parish Poczekajka. Every time it gathered the full Amphitheatre audience. Furthermore, the Community played many concerts worshiping the Lord with Holy Mary in different parishes. Through the intercession of Mary, we were able to go to the north of Poland – Ustka, Kolobrzeg and Kaszuby. In August, members of the Community pilgrimaged to Jasna Gora in the “Lublin's 37th Foot Pilgrimage to Jasna Gora”. In addition, the song “Let's repent" became the anthem of that pilgrimage.

In December 2015 we could enjoy the 10th Guadalupian meeting ( "Guadalupian Week”) that lasted from the 8th to the 13th of December. On December 8th (the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary) was held the “Oratory in honor of Our Lady”. On stage, it gathered many instrumentalists and singers, not only from the Community. The concert took place in the new building of Lublin's Philharmonic. On that day, the Archbishop Stanisław Budzik, who took the honorary patronage of the whole event, blessed the Philharmonic. After the concert, Caritas collected money for the “Family Children's Home” led by the Sisters Servants of Rewarders of the Holy Heart of Jesus. The concert was recorded by TVTrwam. The next day, on December 9th (the Feast of Saint Juan Diego) in the Parish of the Immaculate Conception, after the Holy Mass our Community prayed the rosary presenting the story about the apparitions in Guadalupe. On December 10th we visited the parish of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, after the Eucharist, we began celebrating by a Mexican fiesta, posadas, and also the children managed to break the piñata. Delicious refreshments prepared by the Sisters of the Secular Franciscan Order in Lublin. On December 11th in the Parish Poczekajka once again we played the musical"Life of Mary". On the 12th of December, in the memorial of Our Lady of Gudalupe, after the Mass the Community sang in honor of Our Lady of Gudalupe – a Mariachi Concert in Lublin's Cathedral. The last day of the Guadalupian Week, on December 13th the Community prepared an Adoration of the Holy Sacrament, traditionally in Lublin's Cathedral. Also, that day, the Gate of the Divine Mercy was opened in the Cathedral. During the Masses in the Guadalupian Week, sermons were preached by Father Cyprian Moritz OFM, Father Krzysztof Guzowski and Father Thomas Makarewicz SAC.

This year we also released the DVD of the musical "Life of Mary" and an audio CD with songs from the show. Thank you all for your prayers and support. We praise the Lord and honor Mary for all these works!
